Assessment

To gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary, students need to pass three 4,000 word assignments at Level 7 (Masters) and two blocks of school experience.

 

Attendance

The programme is full time over 38 weeks and attendance is demanding.  70% of the course is school experience, during which you will be required to teach a proportion of a full time teacher’s timetable and attend meetings (including parents’ evenings) in the same way as a practising teacher.  The university sessions run all day.

Length of Programme: 1 Year Full Time.
Entry Requirements: First degree – normally 2:2 or above with at least 50% subject content relevant to the National Curriculum requirements for your subject. There may be some exceptions; the relevant subject co-ordinator will be able to advise you GCSE/O level English Language and Maths at grade C or above Minimum of 2 weeks’ classroom experience in a UK state secondary school within the last two years All successful applicants will have to obtain DBS clearance, to complete a satisfactory medical declaration and to pass the NCTL skills tests before the start of the course
Interview: All suitable candidates are interviewed. Interviews for English, History, Mathematics, Modern Languages and RE take place at the Bognor Regis Campus. PE interviews are held at the Bishop Otter Campus, and the Sciences and Design and Technology interviews take place in partner schools. Applicants may be required to undertake a subject specific task as part of the interview and all applicants complete a literacy task. Candidates will need to demonstrate an awareness of current educational issues and talk about their recent relevant classroom experience.
